Troops Kill 24 Militants in Pakistan

Pakistani troops killed at least 24 militants after some 150 Taliban militants attacked a military post in the northwest, Friday. Home-grown Taliban militants are seeking to topple the U.S-backed government of President Asif Ali Zardari. A senior military officer and four paramilitary soldiers were also killed in the attack in Orakzai; a day after Pakistani jets killed nearly 50 people, mostly militants. At least 15 of the names used by the suspected killers match those of Israeli citizens who are dual nationals of Western countries. All have denied involvement, saying their identities were stolen.

Police Officers Jailed in Angola for Extra-Judicial Killings

One of those shot managed to identify two of the plain clothes officers before dying of his injuries. Judge Salomao Filipe described their actions as “unjustifiable” adding that the sentence of 24 years was the maximum he could pass.
