Nigeria may experience acute shortage of petroleum products soon. This is in view of the enforcement of ethanol content requirement by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). The DPR recently directed that all fuel brought into Nigeria must not contain more than five per cent ethanol and has thus intercepted two cargoes which brought in products with 22% ethanol content.

Following the seizure of two cargoes of gasoline, with high ethanol content, Gunvor International, the company said to be behind the importation, Wednesday, said the shipments contained pure and high quality gasoline. A contradicting report is that Gunvor claimed the 5% ethanol content came in force after its ship had set sail.

The death toll from the collapse of a police headquarters building in Angola’s capital last weekend has risen to 24. Rescue crews pulled nine bodies from the debris of the six-storey building. Nigeria, Cameroon Plan To Explore Oil In Border Areas
Plans are underway by Nigeria and Cameroon to explore oil on their common water border in the Gulf of Guinea. The Minister of State for Energy, Odein Ajumogobia, said, at a ministerial meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA) in Cameroon, that the two countries would work together to exploit oil fields spanning the border.
Oil futures extended their slide on Tuesday, dipping below $100 as the dollar gained ground. Analysts believe oil investors have taken most of their price cues in recent months from gyrations in the dollar. Light, sweet crude for May delivery fell $1.73 to $99.85 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil futures fell $4.04 a barrel on Monday.

A 21-year-old man has confessed to throwing a nine-month-old baby into the Lagoon in Lagos State. According to Sule Salau, his wife said that the baby boy belonged to one Alhaji. He then asked her to leave his house with the baby but she refused, so he took them to the lagoon and threw the baby into the water.

Gunmen on Sunday kidnapped five oil workers on a platform belonging to the Express Oil in Awoye community in Ilaje, Ondo State. Armed robbers killed four persons during an attack on a bank in Sagamu, Ogun State. The heavily armed bandits had laid ambush for a bullion van carrying huge sums of money to a bank but the driver on sighting them quickly turned the vehicle around.
