Review/Analysis

Robbery took a leap up the crime index, even as the police remained undeterred in their determination to bring criminals to book. Brazen attacks were witnessed severally as they take their toll on the citizens and businesses, leading to loss of lives of both civilians and security operatives.

Murder and assassination incidents also took an upward plunge with some gory killings. The police, however, made some arrests, while re-emphasising their undaunted resolve to create a safer environment for the public. These incidents were witnessed in different parts of the country.

Kidnapping, although, showing signs of abatement, is still a threat to societal peace. The south-west and south-east witnessed more of this vile incidents.

While the activities of Boko Haram terrorist have been largely reduced, pockets of attacks and attempted attacks are regularly witness. However, the Nigerian military remains in control, daily clearing known terrorists’ enclaves and stopping would-be bombers in their tracks. The north-east continues to bear the brunt of terrorist’s activities.

Activities of raging Niger Delta militants remain ceaseless across the south-south region of the country. This was witnessed in Delta state as a crude oil delivery line belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) was blown up by suspected militants. It was cheering as the Nigeria Navy arrested 50 suspected militants in Rivers State and destroyed 15 illegal refineries in different locations across the Niger Delta region which remain vulnerable to angry youths.

The authorities continue to urge the public to provide them with useful credible information that could lead to the arrest of suspects and reduction of crime.
