4 Kidnappers Jailed 67 Years in Delta

An Asaba-based taxi driver, a wheel barrow pusher and two others were, October 2, sentenced to 67 years imprisonment cumulatively with hard labour for conspiracy and kidnap. They were convicted for kidnapping the wife of former clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly, (DTHA), Mrs. Ighowho Yabviere and three of her children. The suspects were arraigned on a six count charge of conspiracy, kidnap, illegal detention, armed robbery, demanding with menace and belonging to secret cult. The presiding judge and Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Marshal Umukoro, held that the first to third accused persons were guilty of kidnapping, conspiracy, unlawful imprisonment and demanding with menace while the fourth accused person, Emeka Nwaobi, was found guilty of conspiracy. The court, however acquitted the accused persons of armed robbery and cultism, saying the prosecution failed to prove those charges against them.

Police Kill, Arrest Kidnappers in Port Harcourt

Two suspected kidnappers have been shot dead by men of the Rivers State Police command. This came at a time the police arrested the kidnappers of the University of Port Harcourt’s Vice Chancellor’s son, and other seven kidnap suspects in the state. The son of the VC of UNIPORT, Ejire Lale, was abducted from his father’s compound in Eleme council area unknown gunmen at his fish farm in September. The state Police Commissioner, Musa Kimo, also disclosed that about 20 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery operations to cultism. Some of the items recovered from the hoodlums included one General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, five AK 47 rifles.  3 locally made pistols, 5 locally made long guns and so on.

Woman Arrested for Stealing Baby

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman, Jennifer Onyebuchi, for allegedly stealing a nine-month-old baby in the Ajegunle area of the state. Onyebuchi, who allegedly took the baby to Okija, Anambra State, was arrested on September 30 by operatives from the Lagos command, while the baby was also rescued and reunited with his parents. It was gathered that Onyebuchi, who hails from Anambra, had befriended the baby’s mother, Aina Adetola, for about two weeks before she reportedly carried out the act on September 26. It was gathered that after four days of hiding, Onyebuchi was arrested in Okija, while the baby was also rescued by the police.

Missing Teenagers Found

The two teenagers, who went missing in the Solomade, Ikorodu area of Lagos State while running errands for their parent, have been found. The teenagers, Daniel Odugbo (19) and Channing Odugbo (17), were found around the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Redemption Camp, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after 24 days. Their father, Moses Odugbo, who, October 9, confirmed that his sons had been found, added that the youths had lost memory of what happened to them during the period they were missing. Their discovery has been reported to the police at the Igbogbo division.

Abductors Release Kidnapped 75-Year-Old in Sokoto

Hajiya Fatima Mohammed, the 75-year-old woman kidnapped at Kebbe, in Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State, has been released by her abductors. The septuagenarian had rejoined her family. Sabo Kurawa, spokesman of the Police Command in the state, October 7, confirmed that no ransom was paid for her release.

Suspected Kidnapper Killed in Delta

A joint team of soldiers and policemen has shot dead a member of a five-man kidnap gang, which abducted the proprietor of an Eatery in Ozoro, Delta State. The kidnappers invaded the residence of the victim, Bamidele Daudu, on October 5 and whisked him away in his SUV along Kwale road. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu, confirmed the kidnap, adding that a combined team of policemen and soldiers quickly mobilized and gave the hoodlums a hot pursuit, and in the ensuing gun duel, one of the kidnappers, was gunned down, while others escaped with bullet wounds. The victim was subsequently rescued unhurt. Items recovered include the victim’s vehicle, one locally made cut to size single barrel gun and one live cartridge. Kalu said police were makingefforts to apprehend the fleeing gangsters.

Police Rescue 3 Kidnapped by Bank Robbery

The police in Akwa Ibom state have rescued three persons, including an expatriate, that were kidnapped during a recent bank robbery at Ikot Abasi. The armed robbers, who stormed a branch of First Bank in Akwa Ibom state on October 7, reportedly kidnapped an Indian expatriate, simply identified as Zubayer, and two other unidentified employees of the bank. The robbers, who reportedly operated for over an hour, unchallenged, made their escape through the Okopedi waterways. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, confirming the incident, said no arrest had been made. She added that policemen had been deployed to find the robbers.

Security Guard Leads Robbery Gang

A security guard, Sunday Uche, and four others have been arrested for armed robbery by the men of the Ogun State Police Command. Uche, who was employed as a night guard at Iyana Iyesi community in the Ado Odo/Ota LGA of the state, was accused of leading his gang to rob the residents he was employed to protect. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, said Uche, who is the leader of the gang, deceived the members of the community when the robbery operation was going on. Items recovered from the suspects, according to the PPRO, include three locally-made single-barrelled guns, a dummy gun, some live cartridges, assorted charms and 13 handsets.

Rivers Police Kill Robber in Gun Battle

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have killed two suspected members of a criminal gang terrorizing Port Harcourt residents. While one of those killed during a gun duel with the police on October 1, was a suspected kidnapper, the other that died as a result of gunshot injuries, was an armed robber. Police spokesman, Ahmad Mohammad, while parading about 15 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists on October 5, said seven kidnapped victims were rescued by the operatives. Mohammad also disclosed that five suspected cultists were arrested with various arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, six magazines and 131 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Robbers Attack Bank in Akwa Ibom

Armed robbers, October 7, attacked a branch of the First Bank on Ibekwe Road, Ikot Abasi Urban, in the Ikot Abasi LGA of Akwa Ibom State. It was gathered that the robbers, said to be about 18, carted away an undisclosed sum of money. Eyewitnesses disclosed that members of the gang were dressed in military camouflage, shooting sporadically into the air to scare away passersby. They said the robbers had a field day as the operation lasted for more than an hour without any challenge from the security agencies. It was learnt that a police vehicle that was on its way to the bank to confront the robbers, somersaulted midway to the scene, killing a police sergeant, while other policemen sustained injuries. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, said no arrest had been made, but investigations had opened.

Police Arrest Robbery Suspect in Disguise

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Abdullahi Umar, who says he usually disguised as a scavenger to rob residents in the Ojota area of the state. Umar (24) was nabbed by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad on patrol in the Ojota area. The suspect belonged to a gang, which usually disguised as scavengers and hid arms in their trucks. The police added that the gang used the weapons to rob people of valuables. Umar confessed that he had a trader in the Mile 2 area who usually received the stolen property from him. Umar was hiding among the flowers when the police picked him up. The RRS Commander, Olatunji Disu, October 6, said efforts were on to get other members of the gang.

Police Nab 5-Man Robbery Gang

The police in Lagos, October 6, disclosed that they have arrested a five-man robbery gang led by a fake policeman in the Agege area of the state. The fake policeman, Joel Ojo, said the guns and the police Identity Card recovered from the gang were given to him by a friend, who is a policeman. The gang members were arrested on September 28 after they were stopped by a police patrol team and their vehicle searched. Two pump-action rifles, two pistols with several cartridges, a police ID card and a police uniform were said to have been recovered from the car, while the suspects were arrested.

Police Nab 4 Cultists in Asaba

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of C Division, Asaba, Delta state, Emmanuel Ogbuanya, has vowed that officers and men of the division would not rest on their oars until the undesirable elements terrorizing inhabitants of Jaret and Cable Point areas of Asaba were completely wiped out from the area. Ogbuanya stated this while disclosing that the police had been able to arrest four out of 30 masked cultists who have been terrorizing the residents of the area. The DPO warned cultists, kidnappers and assassins to vacate the area to avoid meeting their waterloo. He charged the vigilance group in the area to work in collaboration with the police.

Police Make Several Arrests in Lagos, Recover Weaponry

The Lagos State Police Command, October 6, said it arrested about 100 suspects in September 2015, as well as recovered several arms and ammunition in the period under review. The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, announced this while giving account of the successes recorded by the command in the past one month. The suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping, child theft, murder, advance fee fraud, cultism and impersonation. While parading about 34 suspects at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Owoseni said 40 were arrested for armed robbery and 31 others for cultism. He also said a total of 27 different types of rifles and 64 various calibre of ammunition were recovered in the period under review.

Navy Intercepts Vessel with Stolen Crude

The Central Naval Command, October 6, said it had intercepted a vessel and tug boat suspected to be involved in oil theft. A statement issued by Lieutenant Commander Eddie Yeibo on behalf of the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, said the seizure followed intelligence report. The statement said the vessel and tugboat were apprehended at Eremor 1 Marginal Oil Field located off Peretorugbene in Ekeremor LGA Area of Bayelsa State. The vessel was reportedly laden with 6,000 metric tonnes of suspected stolen crude oil.

Army to Begin Demolition of Buildings Used as Bomb Factories

The Nigerian Army has announced that it would commence demolition of private houses or structures found to be used as bomb-making factories in Borno State to serve as deterrent to those assisting Boko Haram terrorists. Maj.-Gen. Yushau Abubakar, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, said this while lamenting multiple blasts at the Sajeri area of Maiduguri metropolis, where four suspected female suicide bombers detonated explosives, killing 14 people and injuring 39 others.

3 Boko Haram Militants Killed by Own Bomb

Three militants of the Boko Haram group, were, October 6, killed when a bomb they were transporting exploded in Niger’s Far East region of Diffa. Sources disclosed that the bomb exploded when they were about to enter Bosso town.

Soldiers Arrest Alleged Boko Haram Allies in Maiduguri

The Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, October 6, disclosed that soldiers have arrested three suspected Boko Haram collaborators resulting from the arrest of a Boko Haram financier and stimulant supplier, Mohammed Maina. Usman said Maina had been making useful statements, which led to the arrest of the three suspected collaborators in Maiduguri, Borno State. The Army spokesman believed that the suspect might have been collecting money from Boko Haram sympathisers along the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Kulli axis of the state.

Boko Haram Claims Abuja bombings

Boko Haram, October 4, claimed responsibility for twin bomb attacks on the outskirts of the FCT, Abuja. At least 18 people were killed and 41 injured in the bombings in Kuje and in Nyanya, the authorities said. The claim of responsibility was signed by Islamic State in West Africa Province, an identity used by Boko Haram since its pledge of allegiance to the militants in Syria and Iraq in March. The police said that preliminary investigations revealed the bomb blasts were carried out by two suicide bombers, a male and a female.

Boko Haram Suicide Bombers Kill 6 in Niger

Two suicide bombings by Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram, left five civilians and a policeman dead in Diffa, Niger on October 4. A policeman, five civilians and the four suicide bombers were killed according to a source. They insurgents were chased by inhabitants, who informed the army and they swiftly went after them, according to reports. The region had experienced several weeks of relative calm.

Many Feared Killed in FCT Bomb Attacks

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), October 2, confirmed that multiple explosions rocked the twin districts of Nyanya and Kuje at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), killing at least 18 persons. The blast at Kuje was said to have occurred between the Market and the Local Council headquarters. NEMA said rescue services ambulances had ferried several injured to hospitals in Abuja. The explosions which occurred almost simultaneously resulted in a number of deaths and injuries.

Boko Haram Launches Fresh Attack on Geidam

Suspected members of Boko Haram militants, October 7, launched an attack on Geidam, the home town of Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam. Geidam is about 180 kilometers from the state capital, Damaturu. Police Public Relations Officer, Toyin Gbadegesin, who confirmed the attack, said that security forces on ground remained in control of the situation. Earlier in the day, gunmen believed to be Boko Haram had launched suicide attacks in three different locations in Damaturu, killing at least 17 and injuring 11. Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said that the terrorists attempted to attack a battalion of soldiers in Goniri, but the gallant troops successfully repelled the attacked and killed all of them.

Soldiers Kill 100 Fleeing Boko Haram Members

The Nigerian Army, October 7, disclosed that troops of the Army 120 Task Force Battalion in Yobe killed over 100 fleeing terrorists at Goniri area of the state. Army spokesman, Col Sani Usman, confirmed the incident, adding that seven soldiers died while nine others were wounded in the encounter. According to the statement, the troops recovered arms, ammunitions and other equipment from the terrorists. The arms and ammunition recovered include, one general purpose machine gun; two rocket-propelled grenades, nine AK-47 rifles and belted rounds of 7.62 (NATO) ammunitions. It said that various wires used for Improvised Explosive Devices, 7 Primed IEDs, different types of spanners and a torch were also recovered.

2 Female Suicide Bombers Attack Damaturu Mosque

Two female suicide bombers, October 7, killed 15 people, including themselves when they attacked a mosque in Damaturu, Yobe State capital. Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, disclosed that the terrorist hit the mosque around 6am when mosques were filled with the faithful performing early-morning prayers.

Nigerian Army Reinforces with Special Forces in Geidam

The Nigerian Army has moved to reinforce the troops with Special Forces, following an attack on Sector 1 of 27 Task Force Brigade located at Geidam, Yobe State on October 7. The Director of Army Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed this on October 8, said that the attack by the terrorists was successfully repelled by the troops and the reinforcement sent. Usman also said that the troops killed most of the attacking terrorists and destroying their weapons and equipment. He added that some soldiers were killed and some equipment lost during the encounter.

Military Alerts on Use of Cluster Bombs by Boko Haram

The Nigerian military has alerted the public on the use of cluster bombs by the Boko Haram insurgents. Cluster bomb, which is a weapon of mass destruction, is banned by the United Nations. The Defence Headquarters disclosed that Nigerian Army engineers recovered some caches of the bombs in a recent confrontation in Adamawa State. The Acting Director, Defence Information, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, urged Nigerians living in the north-east and other parts of the country to keep a lookout for cluster bombs sometimes called scatter bombs. Cluster bombs are bombs that house smaller explosives contained in individual cases. These bombs are used against large areas containing many targets, such as columns of vehicles, market places, places of worship or large troop concentration as the case may be. Some of these sub-munitions do not blow up immediately, but remain behind and act as landmines, according to the defense spokesman.

Troops Destroy Terrorist Camp

Troops of 21 Brigade on patrol from Bama to Ngurosoye have destroyed Boko Haram terrorists’ camps along that axis. The soldiers reportedly came across some of the terrorists’ hideouts that also served as fabricating area for IEDs and the terrorists’ training area. Another patrol along Bama-Kawuri axis also discovered and exhumed IEDs and wires for detonation, according to reports.

Rivers Police Debunk Reports of Upsurge in Crime

The Police in Rivers State have said reports of upsurge in crime in the state were false as the command was working to reduce crime incidents to the barest minimum. There have been reports of recent cult-related killings, robbery and kidnappings in parts of the state. State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, October 7, said that the alarm of upsurge in crime in the state was the handiwork of some elements that were not happy with the existing peace and tranquility in the state. He also said the command recorded breakthrough in the fight against crime in the state with the arrest of 22 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and members of cult groups in the past two weeks.

35 Inmates Freed from Bauchi Prison

The acting Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Hamidu Kunaza, has freed 35 inmates from the Bauchi Prison to decongest the facility. The spokesperson for the Nigerian Prisons Service, Bauchi State Command, Adam Jibrin, confirmed this on October 6. Jibrin stated that Kunaza freed the inmates after reviewing their cases during a visit to the prison. The discharged inmates were mostly those awaiting trial and had stayed for a long period in the prison. The NPS state spokesman explained that the Bauchi Prison was established in 1820 with the capacity to cater for only 500 inmates. He, however, lamented that the prison was now heavily congested with 1,041 inmates out of which 774 are awaiting trial, while 267 are convicted inmates.

Man Hacked to Death in Benue

A man, Sunday Ameh, was, October 3, hacked to death in his farm in Otukpo LGA of Benue State. The deceased was slain at Amla village, where he had a big farm. Ameh was attacked in his farm by armed men, who had invaded the area. Information got to town about the attack, and his relatives quickly rushed to the farm, only to find him in a pool of his own blood. They got in touch with the Police in Otukpo, who mobilized their men to the scene. He was discovered to have been hacked severally by his attackers and left to bleed to death.

Man Shot to Death by Debtor

The Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigations into the murder of one Michael Ayogu by his debtor, Onyema Mama Idoko, after he went to collect the money that the suspect owed him. The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said operatives of the Homicide section of the state criminal intelligence and investigations Department have commenced full scale investigations into the incident. It was further gathered that the incident took place as the deceased, who worked for the suspect, had gone to collect the money owed him by the suspect when the suspect allegedly shot him in the mouth, causing his death.

Imo Police Commence Probe on Murder of Widow

The Imo State Police Command has commenced investigation into the gruesome murder of a widow, Fidelia Ofenze, in a border community between Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano local government areas of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, who disclosed this on October 5, however, said that no arrests had been made in connection with the incident. The woman was allegedly killed in her farm, where she had gone to fetch some firewood. Her body was then covered with green leaves. He appealed to anybody with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act, to confide in the Commissioner of Police, his Deputy or the PPRO, adding that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Six Policemen Arrested for Killing 33-Year-Old

The Lagos State Police Command, October 6, disclosed that it had arrested six policemen for killing a 33-year-old man, Emmanuel Orimisan, in the Ilaje-Ajah area of the state. The six officers were attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), and were rounded up on September 30, after investigations showed that they were culpable in the July 31 killing. The officers, who trailed some suspected robbers to their alleged hideout in Ilaje community in the Ilaje-Ajah area, caused confusion when they shot Orimisan dead. It had been reported that the deceased, said to be an apprentice, was sleeping inside one of the buildings in the community and had come out when he heard sporadic gunshots. The bullets hit him and he reportedly died instantly. Petitions from the National Human Rights Commission and other rights groups, led to the eventual arrest of the officers.

Man Docked over Alleged Killing of Father

The Police in Lagos, October 6, arraigned a 35-year-old man, Nelson Oamen, before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing his 75-year-old father, Sunday Ehiremen Oamen. The defendant was alleged to have stabbed his father in the chest and stomach with a broken bottle on September 18, 2015, while he was asleep in their Abesan Estate residence at Ipaja, Lagos. The defendant’s plea was not taken. The prosecutor, Adegoke Akinlabi, urged Magistrate Folashade Botoku to remand the defendant in prison custody, pending the time he would be properly arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction. The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody for the first 30 days, and his case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice. The case was adjourned to November 5 for the outcome of DPP’s advice.

Man Docked over the Stabbing Death of Friend

The Police, October 6, arraigned a 21-year-old man, Azeez Adejumobi, before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing his friend, Saheed Ibitoye, to death. The defendant was alleged to have stabbed the deceased on his left hand after an argument ensued between them. The Prosecutor, Inspector Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on September 24. According to Agoi, the duo got into a heated argument and in the process, the deceased picked up a cutlass but Adejumobi was quick to stab him on his left hand. The Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Olajuwon, declined to remand the defendant, while turning down the murder charge levelled against him.

Wife Kills Police Inspector in Ondo

A 26-year-old housewife, Wunmi Omowa, stabbed her husband, Israel, who was a Police Inspector to death, in Akure, the Ondo state capital. It was gathered that the deceased entered into a shouting match with his wife, which degenerated into a physical fight. Eyewitness account said the suspect rushed into the kitchen in the heat of the argument only to return with a knife with which she stabbed her husband in the neck. She quickly called for help after she realised what she had done, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he died. Spokesman of the state police command, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident on October 8, saying the deceased died as a result of blood loss resulting from the deep cut sustained during the fight with his wife.

Police Corporal Kills Driver in Ogun

A police corporal in Ogun State, October 6, shot and killed a commercial driver, Likinyo Olumide, at Sagamu toll gate along Lagos-Benin expressway. A passenger in the vehicle driven by the slain driver explained that the driver was shot dead after he was stopped by some policemen. The witnessed disclosed that they were returning from Idumagbo, Lagos Island when they met the police at Sagamu. They were reportedly stopped by the police and the driver promptly obeyed, but he was shot dead without any provocation. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command was aware and had arrested the perpetrator.

Couple Arrested over Death of 28-Year-Old

The police in Enugu State have arrested a couple, Okechukwu Emeka and Akaraka Emeka, for conspiracy in the alleged murder of 28-year-old Paschal Eneje. The couple was apprehended by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the command for duping the parents of the deceased of N300,000 under the guise that they knew those behind the killing of their late son,  who was murdered  in April 2014. Police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, disclosed that Akaraka allegedly conspired with her husband and called the mother of the deceased on phone claiming that she had has a baby boy for the deceased, which was also discovered to be false.

Gunmen Kill Security Guard in Bayelsa

Unidentified gunmen, October 9, killed a security guard at the Kolo Creek Oilfields in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa. It was gathered that the sound of the gunshots fired by the gunmen alerted the armed security team stationed to guard the oil installation, forcing the gunmen to beat a retreat. The remains of the victim of the attack, Austin Igwe, were evacuated by the police. The victim was an unarmed security guard, who was on duty when the gunmen arrived. The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) urged members of the bereaved family and community to remain calm as investigations were underway.

Police Rescues Man from Mob over Alleged Rape of Minor

The Police in Bayelsa State, October 4, rescued a 35-year-old man from being lynched by an angry mob for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Yenagoa. It was gathered that the victim was lured out of her parent’s home by the suspected rapists, who warned her not to inform her parents of the atrocity. Spokesman of Bayelsa Police Command, Asimin Butswat, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the suspect was subsequently detained by the police. While expressing the gratitude for the commitment of members of the public in assisting police in fighting crimes, he warned that people should desist from beating up suspects.

Four-Year-Old Raped in School

A four-year-old girl was reportedly raped inside her classroom by her school bus driver. The nursery two pupil of the Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Ipaja, Lagos, was allegedly raped by the suspect, identified as Yemi Adesina, on September 17. Angry residents had stormed the school the following day, and vandalised property, saying the school allegedly shielded the suspect. The victim, who reportedly bled for about a week after the rape, had been withdrawn from the school by her parents, while the suspect had been transferred to the SCID, for further investigation. The girl’s grandmother disclosed that the school authorities allegedly refused to give her attention when she went to report the rape. According to reports, when the Divisional Police Officer, arraigned all the male workers and interrogated the girl, she repeatedly pointed at Yemi Adesina as the culprit. This process was repeated four times, and she kept pointing at the driver. The driver has denied ever seeing the girl.

Vigilante Rescue Octogenarian from Delta Mob

An 85-year-old woman was rescued from a mob in Oleh, Delta State for allegedly confessing to being a witch. It was gathered that the octogenarian was found in a swampy spot around 5.30am on October 2. The elderly woman, who was clad in a blouse and a piece of cloth tied around her waist, was found lying on the ground. Upon interrogation, she allegedly confessed that she was a witch, and was on her way from a night party when she found herself in the pit. The source said her confession drew the ire of the people who brutalised her with different objects. The woman was, however, rescued by some of her children and men of Oleh vigilante team, who stormed the scene and dispersed the crowd. The woman’s children said their mother was not a witch and that she had been suffering from brain disorder after an accident.

Customs Intercepts 5,020 Cartons of Smuggled Frozen Chicken in Ogun

The Nigerian Customs Service has the disclosed that it had intercepted an articulated truck laden with 5,020 cartons of frozen chicken neatly concealed in cartons of Nestle bottled water along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway. The controller FOU Zone A, Comptroller Amade Abdul, disclosed that the contraband was intercepted by the Headquarters Special Assignment Team led by an assistant comptroller of Customs, Shittu Abdulmaruf, comprising chief superintendent of Customs, Dahiru Shehu Usman and others while on information patrol, on October 1. The truck was immediately brought down to the Headquarters of the FOU in Ikeja, where 100 per cent examination was conducted, which revealed the 5,020 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products neatly concealed within 2,016 packages of nestle bottled water with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.17 million.

50,000 Rendered Homeless, 3 Killed as Flood Ravages Delta, Edo Community

About 1,500 persons were reportedly trapped and scores of houses submerged by the ravaging flood at Adia-Obiaka community, Ndokwa-East LGA of Delta State. This came as the River Niger overflowed its banks. The flood claimed the lives of an 11-year-old girl and two others at Okpai, in Ndokwa East LGA of Delta State. The floods also rendered at least 50,000 people in eight communities in Edo State homeless.

Terrorism took an upward plunge as terror group, Boko Haram, continued it reign of terror, attempting to overrun some military camps. The military also stood their grounds and were gallant in the fight against Boko Haram, killing and arresting many insurgents. The north-east remains the targeted area for terror activities.

Murder/assassination incidents were vastly recorded. Most of the killings were solely orchestrated. The police, reacting swiftly made notable arrests of suspects. The south-east, south-west and north-central regions witnessed these incidents.

Kidnap/hostage took a wavering stand as security agents foiled several attempts and hampered the activities of kidnappers. The authorities went further to rescue kidnap victims and arrest kidnap suspects in their numbers. The south-east and south-west were affected.

Robbery took a nose dive as threat level remains insignificant. However police authorities were heavily involved in gun battles as they killed some armed robbers and arrested a few suspects. The south-west bore the brunt of these attacks as victims recount their ordeal.
