Review/Analysis

Murder/assassination incidents have maintained top position on the crime index with several cases of murder carried out across the country. While security agencies have claimed tight control measures to combat these nefarious activities, it is startling to see the rise death rate. The south- south and south-west regions of the country bore the brunt of these deadly crimes.

While kidnap cases also rose up the index, the authorities made major arrests of gang members and were successful in rescue operations, as witnessed mostly in the south-south region of the country.

Armed robbery gangs continue to unleash brutal attacks on unsuspecting victims. But the police remained in control with various arrests and killing of suspects after exchange of gun fire. The incidents were recorded in south-south and south-west.

Though terrorist activities in the north-eastern part of the country seem to have been hampered by the audacious raids carried out by the Nigerian military troops, the Boko Haram sect, in a bid to escape the military might, have also killed and rendered their victims homeless by looting and destroying homes and villages.
The government security agencies have continually urged residents to remain alert to their environment and identify threats, strange behaviour or movement, which should be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
Villeworth maintains her call for all to see safety and security as priority and everyone is involved.
