Review/Analysis

In the review of the security trends for the week, robbery/gang related incidents were seen taking the lead in security threats and incidents. This can be attributed to the rush associated with the festivities of the ember months, and others due to the 2015 elections in Nigeria as rival gangs battle for supremacy in various areas.

In the north-east, terrorism and communal attacks remain on the rise as community vigilante and Nigerian forces battle to rid the region of all traces of terrorism. This caused Nigeria to rank fourth in Global Terrorism Index (GTI) as reported. Murder/assassination cases are also on a high side cutting across different parts of the nation and various strata of the society. Kidnapping, although, showing signs of abatement, is still a threat to societal peace.

Security consciousness remains the watch word. Government Security agents have continued to urge persons living in the country to remain alert to threats and promptly report any perceived threat, strange behaviour or movement noticed to the appropriate authorities for investigation and such could prevent threats from becoming incidents.

Villeworth urges everyone to stay safe, law abiding and be security consciousness.
