Oil Workers Kidnapped in Bayelsa

Nine oil workers, attached to the Nigerian Oil Servicing Companies of the Octopus Clan Nigerian Limited and the Deck Oil Services, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be renegade militants along the Ilebiri Creek in the Southern Ijaw Area of Bayelsa State. It was learnt that the abducted oil workers are Nigerians and were on their way to resume repair work on several pipeline leaking.

Police Kill Three Suspected Robbers in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the killing of three robbers in Eleme Local Government Area. The deceased were robbing a residential building at Ebubu in the early hours. While taking them to the station, the suspects jumped down from the vehicle. They were given a hot chase by the patrol team and when it was impossible to re arrest them were fired at to stop them from escaping. Consequently, they were fatally wounded   in the process and were immediately rushed to Eleme General Hospital, Eleme.

Three Killed as SUV Plunges into River

A Sport Utility Vehicle plunged into the Orashi River at Mbiama in the Ahoada West local Government Area River State, killing three of its occupants. A woman who reportedly survived the crash sustained serious injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. The victims were removed from the river by sympathizers and sand diggers. The remains of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the Shell Hospital morgue Port Harcourt.

Police Arrest Chief, 5 Others over Murder in Ebonyi

Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of one Chikaudili Okrouga, 30, at Okposi Development Centre in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. DSP, Sylvester Igbo, said the suspects were arrested on April 30, 2013, two days after the murder, adding that the deceased was allegedly buried after being murdered. . It was alleged that the chief directed youths of the area to beat up the deceased, which eventually led to his death.

Court Remands Two For Defrauding Korean

A Port Harcourt High Court has remanded two men Aso Adasa Morrison and Frank Biobarakuma in prison for allegedly defrauding a Korean, Jung Yongmin of N57m. The accused persons are facing 17 counts of conspiracy, forgery and fraud preferred against them by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Justice George-will refused an oral bail application which was opposed by the Prosecution counsel, Ayobami Adepoju. He ordered that the accused persons be remanded in custody till May 24.

Army Chief’s Impersonator, Two Others Paraded

A 30-year-old man, Kenneth Odje, has been arrested for impersonating the former Commanding Officer, 19 Battalion Koko Barracks of the Nigeria Army, Lt Col. C. Okoye, by men of the Battalion, Tosan John, said to have hailed from Mosogar of the same local government, who was arrested for crude oil theft in the creeks of Benin River and Christian Udo arrested for kidnapping in Ovwore community in Sapele Local Government Area of the state. Lt. Col. Etim who paraded the suspect and confirmed that the suspect had earlier confessed to the crime. The commanding officer further said: “The soldiers will continue their search for those with a desire for violence and criminality in the area,” adding that all ex-militants are enjoined not to abuse privileges of the amnesty programme offered by the Federal Government to perpetrate crime.

9 Kidnap Suspects, Alleged Killers of DSS Officer Paraded

The Department of the State Security, DSS, has paraded nine suspected kidnappers and robbers including those who killed one of their staff in Benin City, last year. The Director of the DSS in Edo State, Mr Bello Tukur Bakori, who paraded the suspects before Governor Adams Oshiomhole described four of the suspected kidnappers as dare-devil that have terrorized the state since 2009. Among the robbers is one said to be a specialist in demobilizing vehicles that have trackers, since their arrest, kidnapping has gone down in Edo State.

Delta Police Demolish Kidnappers’ Dens

Police Commissioner of Delta State commanded the demolition Kidnappers den. He also announced that 139 suspected robbers/kidnappers were arrested and 29 of such suspects killed during gun battles, while 331ammunition were recovered between January and April this year. In a related development, the Joint Task Force, JTF, on Saturday shot one person dead in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State after raiding seven communities.

Drivers and Police Clash in Ekiti

Commercial drivers and men of Ekiti State Police Command engaged in a violent clash for several hours in Ado-Ekiti. The face-off was allegedly caused by the refusal of a police officer to pay N300 transport fare from Akure to Ado Ekiti. The policeman, who was said to be armed, allegedly fired a shot at the bus shattering the rare windshield, which attracted other drivers from nearby, who joined their colleague to beat up the policeman. The policemen mobilised to the motor-park located in Ajilosun and started shooting sporadically, the policemen were firing the shots, the commercial drivers were also replying with dangerous missiles like stones, broken bottles and iron rods, brandishing cutlasses and axes. Several people were said to have sustained serious injuries in the ensuing melee. Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Victor Babayemi, confirmed the incident, saying police was still investigating the cause of the matter.

Police Rescue Abducted Student

Lagos State Police Command has rescued a 16-year-old student of the American International School Lekki, who was kidnapped on his way to school two weeks ago. During the rescue operation, one of the abductors was reportedly killed, while two others were arrested. Alleged mastermind of the kidnap was the family’s driver, one Adebayo John, who was taking the teenager to school when the kidnap occurred.

Man Sentence 45-Year Jail Term for Theft, Impersonation, Others

A 31-year-old Kelvin Igha Ighodalo to 45 years imprisonment without an option of fine by Osogbo High Court for stealing a Sony Ericsson phone valued at N50, 000 belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, during his swearing in ceremony in 2010. Kelvin who was charged with conspiracy, obtaining property by false pretence, stealing, impersonation and advance free fraud, murder pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Suspected Drug Trafficker Escapes Death at Airport

A suspected drug trafficker, Emmanuel Onedigbo 28, almost lost his life recently at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja, when he was unable to expel a warp of cocaine which got stuck in his anus. He inserted four wraps of cocaine in his anus while Obinna Akwaeze, who allegedly ingested 67 wraps of cocaine and was able to expel the 67 wraps of cocaine. Both suspects were apprehended by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

183 Suspects Arrested in Lagos

183 suspects arrested among pregnant women, nursing mothers by the men Lagos states Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences. The operation became necessary following increasing cases of robbery, rape, among other crimes. The suspects, who were said to have been rounded up at Oshodi and Mafoluku areas of the state, are currently being detained at Alausa detention camp pending their trial before a magistrate court.

Fake Injection Kills Four in Benue

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, Monday, disclosed that four persons were allegedly killed in Gboko, Makurdi and Otukpo local government Areas of Benue State after fake procaine penicillin and gentamycin were administered on them.

JTF Arrests Gunmen, Rescue 4 Women in Kano

The Military Joint Task Force, JTF, have arrested seven gunmen and rescued four women in Kano.  Some of the items recovered from the gunmen include one AK47 rifle, 46 improvised explosive devices, two laptops, phones and their accessories. He said the operation recorded no casualty as there was no resistance from the gunmen.

Gunmen Kill Traditional Ruler in Borno

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have killed the District Head of Lawanti Ward in Bale, which is under Borno Emirate in Borno State, Alhaji Baba Zarabe. The gunmen were said to have besieged the palace of the district head at about 2a.m shot him on the head and chest before fleeing. Confirming the incident, the state police command spokesman, Mr. Gideon Jibrin, said no arrests had been made, but stated that investigation was ongoing.

Gunmen in 50 Hilux Vans Destroy Buildings, Telecom Masts in Borno

Gunmen in their hundreds in a convoy of 50 Hilux vans attacked Marte Local Government Area of Borno state succeeded in burning down all public buildings like schools, hospitals/clinics, police stations and all telecommunications masts in the council headquarters. Our correspondent gathered that the suspected terrorists had after the Baga killing, issued a warning that Marte town would be their next target of attack. No life was lost, as the terrorists had warned those working in the public buildings in the town to vacate before they struck.

Cult Leader, who Burned Baby, Commits Suicide

A Chilean man accused of organising the ritual killing of a three-day-old boy has committed suicide in an abandoned house in Peru, according to authorities. Ramon Castillo, 36, was understood to be the leader of a sect which reportedly believed that the end of the world was near and that the three-day-old child was the antichrist. The baby was taken to a hill in the town of Colliguay near the port of Valparaiso on November 21, 2012, and was thrown into a bonfire. The boy's mother, 25-year-old Natalia Guerra, had allegedly approved the sacrifice and is among four people to have been arrested.

Indian Spy Prisoner Dies after Pakistan Jail Attack

Sarabjit Singh, a prisoner convicted of spying for India, has died after being wounded by fellow inmates in a Pakistani jail, hospital sources reported. Singh was arrested in Pakistan in 1991 and sentenced to death for spying and carrying out four bomb blasts that killed 14 people. "The criminals responsible for the barbaric and murderous attack on Sarabjit Singh must be brought to justice," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Twitter.

Bangladesh Building Collapse Victims Buried

Mass funeral burial was organised unclaimed bodies from the garment factory building collapse Hundreds attended the traditional Muslim funeral and many more looked on from the roofs of nearby buildings as the bodies, rotting in the spring heat, were brought to the graveyard on the back of flatbed trucks. Local men and boys recited a traditional Muslim prayer for the dead. Then, 34 bodies were unloaded and placed in the graves. Workers at the cemetery have dug several long rows of graves as authorities expect to bury scores more unidentified bodies in the coming days.

US Man Who Raped, Murdered 6-month-old Baby Executed

Steven Smith, 46 was convicted of raping and murdering a six-month-old baby was executed by lethal injection was declared dead at 10:29am, prison authorities in Lucasville, southern Ohio, confirmed after the execution. Boston Bombings: Three More Suspects Arrested

Authorities have arrested three additional suspects in connection to the Boston Marathon bombings, that the suspects are friends of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The three have been under FBI surveillance for 10 days, and are suspected of aiding Tsarnaev after he allegedly committed his crimes. Two have been in custody on immigration charges related to their student visas, while a third, a U.S. citizen, was arrested. In a statement, the police department said there was no threat to public safety at this time

Bangladesh Building Collapse Death Toll Passes 482

The number of people killed in the collapse of a factory building on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, has passed 482, officials say.  A senior army official also said that a list of 149 people still missing had been compiled from relatives.  Thousands marched in May Day parades in Dhaka on Wednesday, demanding the death penalty for the building's owner. Police officials confirmed that 399 bodies had been pulled from the wreckage, while another three people had died in hospital, reports the BBC.

Three British Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan

Three British soldiers have been killed in a roadside bomb attack in Helmand province in Afghanistan. The three soldiers from The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, were killed when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device whilst on a routine patrol.
