Review/Analysis

Murder/assassination maintained its place at the top of the crime index as the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) have continued to assure Nigerians of their commitment to protect lives and properties with the arrest of gang leaders and some suspects while others remain at large. These incidents were recorded in various regions of the country.

Kidnap/hostage also ranked high. Though some victims remain in captivity, the police made arrest of gang leaders and other suspects, while in pursuit of other suspects. The south-south and south-west recorded most of these incidents.

Gang incidents also took a leap up the crime index. The authorities have assured of their determination to curb these incidents. Despite their activities, the police dislodged major gangs and arrested suspected cultists. Most arrests were made in the south-west, where the Lagos state police command, has continued a raid on dark spots.

Terrorism remains on the rise with attacks in various parts of the north-eastern region. The military has consistently dismantled camps of the terror groups. But the group finds new ways to regroup and attack towns, where the people appear helpless. The military onslaught appears to have stripped the terrorists of supplies as the supply routes were cut-off, and the terrorist have resolved to looting villages for food and supplies.
Robbery incidents remain low as the authorities continue raid criminal hideout and making arrest of suspects during raids of their hideouts. These incidents were recorded across various regions of the country.
